Our roots

The Society of the Sacred Heart was founded in Malta in August 1903. By this time, it was already well-established in Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand. A number of families in Malta had begun educating their children within Sacred Heart Schools in European countries such as at Trinita’ dei Monti, Rome; at Roehampton, London and at the Rue de Varenne, Paris. Therefore, it was only a matter of time before parents began to request a Sacred Heart school for their children’s education in Malta.

Għall-ewwel darba, studenti tal-Year 10 mill-Kulleġġ tagħna kellhom l-opportunità li jipparteċipaw fil-Pellegrinaġġ ta’ Lourdes mal-Ordni Militari Sovran ta’ Malta. Flimkien ma’ żewġ għalliema, huma għexu esperjenza sabiħa ta’ fidi, servizz u solidarjetà ma’ pellegrini morda minn madwar id-dinja. 💙

Permezz ta’ atti żgħar ta’ għajnuna, kura u preżenza, l-istudenti tagħna mhux biss taw servizz lill-oħrajn, iżda wkoll irċevew esperjenza li ħalliet impatt profond f'qalbhom. Kien vjaġġ mimli talb, ħbiberija, memorji sbieħ u mumenti li żgur se jibqgħu magħhom għal dejjem.

Dawn huma xi kummenti li kitbu l-istudenti wara din l-esperjenza:

“This trip to Lourdes was an amazing experience and a very wonderful opportunity. Along with all the work we did helping patients and saying many helpful, possibly needed prayers in such a special place, we also had a ton of fun, going on hikes (on a mountain) and strengthening the bond between us all. One of the most meaningful times for me was being thanked and told that I did a good job, which made both me and the others appreciative to have come on this pilgrimage. I would definitely participate in volunteering again if the opportunity comes again.”

“Our first international school trip was very different from a normal holiday and brought us closer together as friends, while also helping us get to know our teachers better as they supported us. The experience was new and amazing, and even though the walking was tiring, especially when helping sick patients in a chair called a voiture, it was worth it when they thanked us. The most special moment was visiting the grotto and saying a prayer for people I know, which made the trip meaningful and unforgettable, and I would recommend it to anyone.”

Nirringrazzjaw lill-istudenti u lill-għalliema kollha li għamlu din l-esperjenza possibbli u tant speċjali.
