Our roots

The Society of the Sacred Heart was founded in Malta in August 1903. By this time, it was already well-established in Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand. A number of families in Malta had begun educating their children within Sacred Heart Schools in European countries such as at Trinita’ dei Monti, Rome; at Roehampton, London and at the Rue de Varenne, Paris. Therefore, it was only a matter of time before parents began to request a Sacred Heart school for their children’s education in Malta.

Today the Senior School marked the end of the second term at with a meaningful morning of reflection. The day began with the celebration of Mass for the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. The Mass opened with reflections on the Seven Sorrows of Mary, inviting all present to enter into a spirit of prayer and contemplation. During the celebration, both staff and students also took part in the Adoration of the Cross, making the experience even more profound.

Following Mass, students participated in a variety of workshops centred around the theme of community. Through these sessions, they were encouraged to reflect on how their actions and attitudes shape the world around them. In one workshop, students designed signs promoting kindness and building a better community. In another, they explored the hidden struggles that people may carry, learning the importance of empathy and compassion.

Other workshops focused on the value of forgiveness, the power of positive actions such as patience and kindness in overcoming negative experiences, and the importance of meditation, reflection, and prayer. Students also reflected on how a strong family and faith community can help them develop their gifts and navigate difficult moments in life.

As we come to the close of this term, we encourage all families to actively participate in the liturgical celebrations of Holy Week. May this be a time to come together in reflection and prayer as a family.

Wishing you all a blessed and peaceful Eastertime.

Farewell Class of 2026

Yesterday was the last day at Sacred Heart College for our Year 11 students, and today our school feels just a little quieter without them.

As they start a new and exciting chapter in their journey, we wish them happiness, success, and fulfilment in all that lies ahead.

They will always be Sacred Heart girls, and our doors will forever remain open to welcome them back home.

May they carry with them the values of St Madeleine Sophie—being humble, being simple, and bringing joy to others—wherever life leads them.

You will always be part of our story.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Maltese author Lara Bezzina to our school, where she met with our Year 5 and Year 3 students.

During her visit, she read an engaging excerpt from one of her books and sparked thoughtful discussions about the joy of reading, the journey of publishing a book, and the importance of sustainability.

It was an inspiring experience for our students, who were eager to ask questions and share their ideas. Thank you, Lara, for a memorable and enriching visit!

Last week, our Year 3 pupils had a special opportunity to take part in Prayer Spaces as we journey through .

Through a variety of interactive activities, the children were able to pause, reflect, and explore themes such as gratitude, forgiveness, and hope in a calm and meaningful way. It was wonderful to see their thoughtfulness, respect, and openness as they engaged in these moments of quiet reflection.

Experiences like these help our pupils grow not only academically, but also spiritually and emotionally. We are very proud of the way Year 3 embraced this time. 💜
