Our roots

The Society of the Sacred Heart was founded in Malta in August 1903. By this time, it was already well-established in Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand. A number of families in Malta had begun educating their children within Sacred Heart Schools in European countries such as at Trinita’ dei Monti, Rome; at Roehampton, London and at the Rue de Varenne, Paris. Therefore, it was only a matter of time before parents began to request a Sacred Heart school for their children’s education in Malta.

🌱🌼 *Eco Bot Explorers in Action!* 🌼🌱

As part of our *Eco Bot Explorers* project, our Science Club girls at Sacred Heart Junior School have been getting their hands dirty in the best possible way! 💚

Using the raised garden beds sponsored by the National STEM Community Fund, students began by preparing the soil , removing weeds with their new shovels, also funded through the project. They carefully placed sticks at the bottom of the beds to support healthy drainage, setting a strong foundation for planting. 🪴

Next came the exciting part — planting seeds and transferring their germinated seedlings into the soil, followed by plenty of watering and care. 🌿💧

This is just the beginning! In the coming months, more plants will be added as students continue developing their tiered raised beds, learning about sustainability, growth, and responsibility along the way.

A wonderful hands-on experience full of teamwork, care for the environment, and real-world learning. We can’t wait to watch our garden — and our young eco explorers — grow! 🌸✨

🚗💡 Can a car drive itself? Our Year 6 students are finding out!

As part of our exciting Eco Bit Explorers project, students are diving into the world of AI and image recognition. They are teaching artificial intelligence to recognise traffic lights, road signs, and pedestrians — learning how technology can make our roads safer. 🚦🤖
But they didn’t stop there! Students designed and built their very own eco cities, bringing their ideas for sustainable living to life. 🌱🏙️ They then coded Photon robots to drive autonomously through their cities, using AI image recognition to stop at red lights and follow traffic rules.

Through this hands-on experience, students explored how technology can help reduce human error and prevent accidents , all while developing essential 21st-century skills like teamwork, problem solving, and creativity. 💡🤝

What an incredible journey into the future of innovation .Our very own future coders and eco city builders in action! 🚀 #STEAM

A step back in time through play! 🕰️

As part of our Social Studies learning activities, our Year 4 Bluebells students had a wonderful opportunity to explore how children spent their free time in the olden days—long before devices, busy roads, and today’s fast-paced lifestyle. We began by discovering traditional activities and games that once filled children’s days with laughter and creativity. The children compared past and present, reflecting on what traditions we still celebrate today, such as local village feasts, and which games and pastimes have stood the test of time. They also explored how life has changed and evolved over the years.

Students explored traditional games, experiencing how children once spent their free time outdoors. From skipping ropes and marbles to elastic bands (lastiku) and spinning tops, they discovered the joy of simple, timeless fun.

A hands-on way to connect the past with the present—and lots of smiles along the way! 🎉

They also shared their thoughts in a lively discussion, debating whether life back then was better than today. Safe to say, there were some very interesting opinions!

As we enter the final week of school before Holy Week, our junior school community came together in a special way to pray the Way of the Cross.
It was a beautiful and reflective moment, where students and educators united in prayer, remembering the journey of Jesus with reverence and understanding. Through each station, our young learners showed great respect, compassion, and a deep sense of community.

Join is in prayer:
“We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you, because by your holy Cross you have redeemed the world.”

Moments like these remind us of the true meaning of this season and the importance of coming together in faith. 🙏
