Our roots

The Society of the Sacred Heart was founded in Malta in August 1903. By this time, it was already well-established in Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand. A number of families in Malta had begun educating their children within Sacred Heart Schools in European countries such as at Trinita’ dei Monti, Rome; at Roehampton, London and at the Rue de Varenne, Paris. Therefore, it was only a matter of time before parents began to request a Sacred Heart school for their children’s education in Malta.

Hekk kif illum jitfakkar Ħamis ix-Xirka, naqsmu mal-komunità tagħna din il-wirja sabiħa tal-Mejda tal-Appostli li saret fil-lodge tal-Kulleġġ.

Din il-wirja, imtella’ b’dedikazzjoni mill-istaff, fakkret lill-istudenti fl-Aħħar Ikla li kellu Ġesù mal-Appostli – mument ta’ mħabba, qsim u servizz.

Nirringrazzjaw lil kull min ta sehmu biex din l-inizjattiva tkun possibbli u tkompli ssaħħaħ il-valuri li ngħożżu fil-komunità tagħna.

Last Thursday marked a truly special milestone for our Year 11 students as they celebrated their final day at Sacred Heart College.

The day began with a beautiful Thanksgiving Mass in our chapel, celebrated by Fr Marco Portelli. It was a moment of reflection and gratitude, setting the tone for the day’s celebrations.

Following Mass, Head Girl Jade Nygaard Andersen and Sub Head Girl Nicole Farrugia Wismayer delivered heartfelt speeches, recalling their journey at Sacred Heart from Year 1 through to Year 11. Their words captured the essence of growing up within our school community. Ms Grech, Acting Head of School, then shared her message and wishes for the students’ future, followed by a few words from College Director Dr Gauci.

As a gesture of appreciation, the students presented a floral gift to the College’s administrative and secretarial staff, acknowledging their constant support throughout the years.

Celebrations then continued in the College gardens, beautifully decorated for the occasion. Students took time to reflect by completing feedback sheets, sharing their favourite memories, most meaningful experiences, and positive aspects of school life. They also wrote their names on leaves and hung them on a special tree, symbolising their lasting connection to the College.

The garden was filled with laughter and joy as students signed each other’s memory shirts and journals, played musical bingo, and enjoyed gifts and treats generously donated by parents. The morning continued with delicious barbecued food prepared by our dedicated staff, followed by the cutting of a celebratory cake.

The day concluded with a moving final dismissal. The Senior School community lined the corridors in a guard of honour, applauding and cheering as the students walked through for the last time, accompanied by the sound of the school bell.

It was an emotional farewell—not only for the students, but also for the staff who have had the privilege of watching them grow into the young women they are today.

We wish them every success as they move forward in life. May they always strive to reach their full potential and continue to live by the values of St Madeleine Sophie.

Today the Senior School marked the end of the second term at with a meaningful morning of reflection. The day began with the celebration of Mass for the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. The Mass opened with reflections on the Seven Sorrows of Mary, inviting all present to enter into a spirit of prayer and contemplation. During the celebration, both staff and students also took part in the Adoration of the Cross, making the experience even more profound.

Following Mass, students participated in a variety of workshops centred around the theme of community. Through these sessions, they were encouraged to reflect on how their actions and attitudes shape the world around them. In one workshop, students designed signs promoting kindness and building a better community. In another, they explored the hidden struggles that people may carry, learning the importance of empathy and compassion.

Other workshops focused on the value of forgiveness, the power of positive actions such as patience and kindness in overcoming negative experiences, and the importance of meditation, reflection, and prayer. Students also reflected on how a strong family and faith community can help them develop their gifts and navigate difficult moments in life.

As we come to the close of this term, we encourage all families to actively participate in the liturgical celebrations of Holy Week. May this be a time to come together in reflection and prayer as a family.

Wishing you all a blessed and peaceful Eastertime.

Farewell Class of 2026

Yesterday was the last day at Sacred Heart College for our Year 11 students, and today our school feels just a little quieter without them.

As they start a new and exciting chapter in their journey, we wish them happiness, success, and fulfilment in all that lies ahead.

They will always be Sacred Heart girls, and our doors will forever remain open to welcome them back home.

May they carry with them the values of St Madeleine Sophie—being humble, being simple, and bringing joy to others—wherever life leads them.

You will always be part of our story.
